Installation instructions for E31 door handle repair set.

Take out the entire door handle assembly from the door.

Remove the original (and broken) mechanism. Make sure not to lose the spring and remember how it is being placed.

Take the new part and mount it according to the following pictures.

Ensure the door latch is in fully closed position and the new shaft is set as shown.

Make sure not to accidentally mix left and right. Although they are clearly marked stupid things happen 😊

The axle has to be slightly below the hole for the hook. Take a close look at the pictures before proceeding.

Now use an electric drill with the provided drill bit and drill a hole through either one of the hinges of the door latch and the axle of the new part. Be very careful as a 2mm drill bit breaks easily. Drill all the way through.

Insert one of the two tiny pins provided with the set.

Now repeat those steps on the 2^nd door latch hinge.

Two final remarks:

· Between the door handle covering and the door itself is a thin rubber gasket. In most cases it is worn, ugly and eventually even broken. Consider getting new ones before you start the job. Part numbers are (left) 51211970855 and (right) 51211970856.

· Once it is all taken apart you may want to take the opportunity and have the door handle latch as well as the coverings painted in either matte black or the color of the car. A matter of taste for sure but I think it’s at least worth a thought.
